Jungian Play Therapy is one of the historically significant/ seminal theories recognized by the Association for Play Therapy and has been described as “a dynamic, creative approach to counseling children that emphasizes symbolic meaning” (Green, 2014, p.3). This two-hour workshop will provide a brief overview of Jungian Play Therapy, including its basic tenets, terminology, and role of the play therapist in creating a therapeutic space where symbolic expression can unfold. While Jungian theory may seem complex, this session will break down core concepts such as archetypes and symbolism through a play therapy lens. Participants will explore how these elements naturally emerge in children’s play, as well as how play therapists can recognize and engage with them using expressive arts, sand tray, and other play therapy techniques.
Objectives:
Identify the core tenets of Jungian Play Therapy.
2. Define at least 4 Jungian Play Therapy terms and how they may apply within a play therapy session.
3. List 2-3 creative interventions play therapists can utilize in Jungian Play Therapy and in personal and professional self-discovery as a therapist.

In Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), the therapist trusts the child’s innate capacity for growth and healing through the therapeutic power of play. Yet in many clinical settings, play therapists are also required to develop structured treatment plans and provide detailed documentation.
Staying Centered equips play therapists with the tools to create developmentally appropriate, clinically sound treatment plans and documentation that remain true to the principles of CCPT. Participants will learn how to identify therapeutic goals grounded in the child’s emotional and developmental needs, monitor progress using play-based indicators, and document sessions in a way that reflects the child’s process while meeting the clinical, ethical, and administrative expectations of diverse practice settings.
Through interactive activities, case examples, and discussion, this workshop offers practical guidance for maintaining fidelity to the CCPT model—while confidently communicating the value and effectiveness of the work to caregivers, supervisors, and other professionals.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
Create treatment plans that reflect the goals and philosophy of Child-Centered Play Therapy.
Identify observable behaviors and play themes to monitor therapeutic progress.
Write clinical documentation that aligns with CCPT principles while meeting external requirements.
